Use-of-Force Record Recall
WADEPS is the data custodian for reportable use-of-force data in Washington. Law enforcement agencies, or their designates, submit information through the online Reporting Tool, a one-way data system designed to maintain data integrity and ensure transparency.
The WADEPS Retraction and Amendment Policy (PDF) outlines the process for correcting or removing use-of-force (UOF) incident data submitted to WADEPS. Agencies may recall a record to correct errors (amend) or to delete the record (retract) as appropriate to satisfy statutory reporting requirements under RCW 10.118.030.

The Process
Agencies are responsible for determining whether a use-of-force record is eligible for recall. See the WADEPS record recall policy linked above for details.
1. Agency recalls a reportable use-of-force record
– Requests are only accepted through the WADEPS Request for Record Recall form. Click the link to open the online form in a new tab.
– A separate request form is required for each reportable use-of-force record.
– Requests must be digitally signed by a Reporting Tool administrator for the agency the record belongs to.

2. WADEPS returns the record to the agency
– The reportable use-of-force record is reverted to “pending approval” status and the data is no longer included in data for the public dashboard.
– The reportable use-of-force record will be available in the agency’s Reporting Tool account in the “Pending Approvals” queue on the Supervisor Dashboard.
– The individual who made the request is notified by WADEPS via the email address provided on the form.

2. Agency takes action
– Amend the record: As appropriate, the agency may revise unlocked data and resubmit the record to WADEPS. The corrected values will be included in the public dashboard and any data downloads. If the record includes administrative review data, that data will also need to be resubmitted to WADEPS.
– Retract the record: As appropriate, the agency may elect to delete the record in the Reporting Tool. This step fully removes the data from the Reporting Tool.
In both case, the original use-of-force data is maintained in WADEPS retraction logs.
– Retract the record: As appropriate, the agency may elect to delete the record in the Reporting Tool. This step fully removes the data from the Reporting Tool.
In both case, the original use-of-force data is maintained in WADEPS retraction logs.
