Columbia Basin: WA use-of-force database up and running

• Law enforcement agencies are now required to report use-of-force data when the public is injured or killed or when certain methods of force are used.
• A Washington state institution of higher education is to receive use-of-force data to measure the effectiveness of policing reform strategies.
• An easily searchable, public-facing website will display the data. All police agencies have until Sept. 2 to begin reporting this data.

KIRO 7: Washington launches database to track police use of force
Washington just launched the first-ever police use of force database in the nation.
It’s called the Washington State Data Exchange for Public Safety (WADEPS).
It requires all law enforcement agencies in the state to report use-of-force data to the state every month— including when an officer uses a firearm, Taser, pepper spray, canine, or strikes a person with a weapon or their body.
